Wayne Ranney

I am a geologist, author, and trail guide who loves to share my passion for geology and earth history with all who are curious about our planet Earth. I write books, lead outdoor adventures, and teach geology classes in Flagstaff. I also love foreign travel and cultures, and anything outdoors in the red rocks.

An article in the Prescott Courier recently ran about my writing. To read the article click here

"Sedona Through Time"

Sedona Through Time

"Sedona Through Time" was recently updated in a new, 3rd edition. The text is completely revised and all new graphics were added and were beautifully designed by Bronze Black. Since 1993 almost 10,000 copies were sold and enjoyed multiple printings through two editions. It has been the most popular book and standard reference on the geology of this special landscape. The new edition has over 90 color photographs, many maps and diagrams, and utilizes dozens of Ron Blakey's fantastic paleogeographic maps used in my book "Ancient Landscapes of the Colorado Plateau." Find out how to order this new book by clicking on the book cover above. Read a review of "Sedona Through Time" here.

Ancient Landscapes - the Exhibit

Now through August 29 at MNA

My exhibit "Ancient Landscapes of the Colorado Plateau"is now on display at the Museum of Northern Arizona. This stunning exhibit is based on my book of the same name which is co-written and produced with one of my former professors at Northern Arizona University, Dr. Ron Blakey. "Ancient Landscapes will be on display until about Labor Day at the museum and I invite you to stop in and take a look the next time you are in Flagstaff.
